House Passes Legislation Fighting Pay Discrimination

Share

The new, stronger Democratic Majority passed its first major bills today - two measures that will help ensure women receive equal pay for equal work:

Democrats led lawmakers in approving a bill making clear that women who are victims of gender-based discrimination can sue for compensatory and punitive damage.

The chamber was also voting on a bill in response to a Supreme Court decision that workers must file a discrimination claim within 180 days of a pay violation. Supporters of changing the law said many workers don't find out about wage disparities for years.

The two bills, coming in the first week of the new Congress, attest to the worker rights agenda of the Democratic-led Congress and the incoming Democratic president, Barack Obama.

Unfortunately, House Republicans chose to use one of their first votes in the new Congress to continue pay discrimination in the workplace. Apparently they didn't hear the American peoples' overwhelming call for change and increased opportunities.

Everyone is created equal. Now that the economy is not stable people need to be fairly treated on their work. Sometimes a budget should be prescribed a payday loan, and sometimes it should be prescribed a Federal loan.  Right now, the economic recovery team is convening in Washington D.C., trying to figure out how best to rescue the American economy.  A payday loan has been given to the financial industry.  The idea is to get more jobs available to people to drive down the unemployment rate and start some financial recovery.  Half of the bailout from a few months ago is already gone, but there’s more bailout money on the way with Obama’s recovery measures.  Sounds like a payday loan to the American people.  Read more about the payday loans in store for the nation.
