NJ-03: John Adler Pulls Ahead of Chris Myers in Latest DCCC Poll

Share

DCCC Press:

In the last week, John Adler's lead over Chris Myers has grown to an eight percent lead.  Last Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a poll showing that the race between John Adler and Chris Myers favored Adler 38 percent to 34 percent and with 29 percent of voters still undecided.  One week later, the undecided voters have begun to decide and there is a clear preference towards Adler.  A new DCCC survey of 400 likely voters conducted by Grove Insight from October 15 -16 shows that Adler leads Myers 43 percent to 35 percent, with 22 percent undecided (4.9 percent margin of error).

"Clearly, as voters become more aware of the choice between John Adler and Chris Myers they choose Adler," said Carrie James, regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Committee.  "New Jersey families are eager for change and Chris Myers' support for George Bush's failed war and economic policies are tanking his already struggling campaign."

John Adler was endorsed by the Press of Atlantic City saying that Myers has run a "disturbingly combative and negative campaign" and Adler "offers the cleanest break from the failed policies of the past eight years." [10/19] He was also endorsed by the Philadelphia Inquirer saying he "has the right views on the most pressing national issues." [10/20]

A Myers win would be handing a seat in Congress to Lockheed Martin, the nation’s largest defense contractor.  Myers is Vice-President of Business Development for the Lockheed Martin division in Moorestown, one of the largest employers in the NJ-3 district.  That job largely consists of going to Washington and lobbying Congress to fund his company’s contracts, including the Aegis radar/weapons system for Navy cruisers.  The recent shootdown of a failing satellite by an Aegis-equipped ship was a taxpayer-funded ad for an Aegis role in Ballistic Missile Defense, one of Myers’ biggest priorities.  Myers got to start off his campaign while still working his full-time job, not taking a leave of absence until this summer, after he had won the Republican primary.  If he gets into Congress, is there any doubt as to who he’ll see as his main constituent?

John Adler presents a refreshing alternative to the corporate lobbyist Myers, and gives Democrats a chance to pick up this long-term Republican seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Jim Saxton.  Good luck to Adler!!!
