DeLay Update: Katherine Harris… You Too?

As hard as it may be to believe, Katherine Harris, the former Florida Secretary of State and current Representative from the 13th District of Florida, attended a TRMPAC (Tom DeLay’s PAC to funnel money into Texas state elections - which paved the way for their re-redistricting) fundraiser in Austin in 2002. This fundraiser was paid for by corporate money, which may be illegal. The Grand Jury is investigating. I know. Tom Delay and Katherine Harris accused of violating election …

Thank you from DCCC Executive Director Jim Bonham

I just wanted to add my thanks to the comments posted by DSCC Executive Director Rudd. I would particularly like to thank you for all the help and encouragement you provided in the weeks leading up to Ben Chandler’s stunning win in Kentucky a few weeks back. People like Atrios, Daily Kos, Lean Left and the countless others who have been busy blogging to support us (and to tell us when they think we have screwed up) really have …

BTW - About this “Defeatist” Attitude…

We have all been reading a lot about how the Dems are supposedly conceding that we aren’t going to win back the House. Our Chair, Rep. Matsui, was on “One on One” (ironically NRCC Chair Reynolds was there too) this Sunday, and here is what he had to say on the matter: MR. MCLAUGHLIN: What’s the current composition of the House of Representatives? REP. MATSUI: Well, we’re 12 seats down right now. And I think we’re going to take …

Herseth Ads Up

For the three of you who read us that didn’t see it on Kos, Herseth ads are up on her website. Note to self: move to the West Coast for more timely posting. Seriously, though, we are ecstatic that the blogosphere is paying attention to these races, especially given what is @Stake (if you’ll excuse the pun)... Thanks to Kos, Atrios, and the zillions of you out there blogging, reading about and getting involved!

House race outlook - 2004

In response to an earlier story about Tom DeLay’s growing PAC scandal, ljm4clark@yahoo.com posted this message : “Winning Without Delay…whatever we have to do to take back the house and senate. House net pickup of 12, support incumbents and everyone in a close race.” Double entendre aside, ljm trumpets the growing resolve to send the GOP majority packing in these next elections.  Can it be done?  The NRCC says “no way,” but what would you expect?  Republicans currently have …

DeLay Scandal Apology

You may have seen me insinuate that Tom DeLay’s PAC had a donation-swapping system going to take corporate contributions and put them into Congressional Races (where they are illegal). I apologize for creating the impression that something improper was going on. Apparently, they only: “...sent $190,000 in corporate funds to the Republican National Committee; the money was conveyed by Jim Ellis, a top political aide of DeLay. A few weeks later, the RNC’s state election committee sent the same …

SD Update: Diedrich Ducks Dick’s Dinner

Ok, this came out on Friday, but Larry Diedrich, the GOP nominee in the SD Special Election is already high-tailing it away from Bush/Cheney. The Veep is coming to raise money for John Thune on the 8th, but Larry Is avoiding it like the plague. He does, however, expect that the Administration will be helping “in other ways.” (read: “cash”) I’m no expert, but it may have something to do with his sub-50% approval rating (and 33% unfavorable) in …

Guest Post - Jesse Lee: That Darned Liberal Media Filter

Ah, the sheer utility of the blog. Many will be surprised to hear this, but Democrats quite regularly compile blistering reports calling out the Republicans on their worst excesses, taking the time to prove their point beyond the shadow of a doubt.  These are released to the media and ultimately ignored virtually without fail.  Now we too are able to bypass the infamous ├»┬┐┬Żliberal media filter” and provide our fellow bloggers with such information directly. Here is Steny Hoyer’s …

Hastert Stumping for South Dakota

In case you thought the GOP were going to easy on us in the South Daktoa Special Election, National Journal’s Congress Daily (paid registration required) is reporting in this morning’s edition: A week after Republicans suffered a special election defeat in Kentucky, House Speaker Hastert sought Wednesday to redirect Republican energy toward its next special election challenge in South Dakota.     During a weekly House Republican Conference meeting, Hastert told members that it is important to back former …

GOP Speaker Refuses to Extend 911 Commission

Reason #45667 to elect more Democrats to Congress: The Seattle Times is reporting that GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert refuses to bring up legislation to extend the 911 investigation. “The commission says it needs the extra 60 days to complete hundreds of interviews and review millions of documents. Despite initial objections, President Bush backed the panel’s request earlier this month. Democratic congressional aides said Bush halfheartedly supported the extension and put little pressure on Hastert to back down. Republican commission …

Tom Delay Fundraising Scandal Update

The Austin-American Statesman is reporting that Tom DeLay aide John Colyandro sent a blank check to the RNC as part of their coporate money laundering. John Colyandro, executive director of DeLay’s Texans for a Republican Majority, said in a deposition that he had the blank check sent because Ellis had a meeting with Republican National Committee officials scheduled the next day. It has been known for almost a year that Texans for a Republican Majority gave $190,000 in corporate …

In case you didn’t catch it, an NRCC Favorite, Brookhaven Town Supervisor John Jay LaValle, declined to run against incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop. That leaves Bishop only one GOP opponent, Bill Manger, who Supervisor LaValle has called “... nobody, really”.
