DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on MLK Day

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day tomorrow:

"Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to achieving equality and justice for all Americans. Today we celebrate his life and acknowledge the tremendous contributions of my Democratic colleagues Assistant Leader Jim Clyburn and Congressman John Lewis for their lifetime of work in the cause of Civil Rights."

"On Martin Luther King Day, we honor a man who dared to dream that the proposition that 'all men are created equal' would become a reality. We mourn a life cut too short by violence and hatred – even while he taught us to live with tolerance and non-violence."

"But most importantly, at a time when our country often seems ready to split at the seams, today we must remember Dr. King's mission to bring us together – because our common humanity is greater than what divides us. Today and every day, let us reflect on and recommit ourselves to Dr. King’s values, so that our country may continue to prosper and expand opportunity for every American."
