Ask the DCCC - Rangel/Craine Edition

Don’t say we never did nothin’ for ya…

Stakeholder Gurlll asked in the comments to our post on Bush’s Manufacturing Czar:

Just wondering why the stall on the Crane-Rangel manufacturing bill? With the points Pelosi used to bolster the bill it seems like a win-win situation for both sides of the aisle.

Good question. We did some checking, and - thanks to our Policy Director, (name withheld by request - she is shy -) - we have an answer for you.

It appears that no one really has a problem with the bill itself (which would prevent us from suffering under $4 billion worth of EU sanctions), but rather that the GOP House Ways and Means Committee Chair, Bill Thomas (R-CA22), is holding it up because he is demanding a complete overhaul of the tax code which would encourage even MORE US companies to send jobs overseas.

sigh.

Here is a great letter from Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY15), the Ranking Member on that Committee and a report on the implications of Thomas’ proposed changes (sorry it is in PDF format) and some more info (also from Rep. Rangel and also in PDF format).

Next question?
