Boehner’s Sequester Whiplash

We can’t blame you if you have whiplash from the different positions House Speaker John Boehner has held on his Tea Party Congress’ Sequester Plan. Speaker Boehner and the Tea Party are poised to make deep, draconian cuts in defense and essential domestic services such as Head Start that will stifle the economy – and whatever he says today, Speaker Boehner was all for the law less than two years ago.

TODAY:  “Let me make clear: I don’t like the sequester.” [Politico, 2/6/13]

AUG. 1, 2011:  “I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I’m pretty happy.” [CBS News, 8/1/11]

  • “This is a positive step forward that begins to rein in federal spending…” [Boehner Press Release, 8/1/11]
  • Although House Speakers are not required to vote, Boehner made an exception to support sequester. [S 365, Vote #690, 8/01/11]
