DCCC Activates Americans to Demand Solutions to Sequester from 23 Tea Party House Republicans

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is activating everyday Americans with new paid phone calls, allowing people who are concerned with the sequester to reach their Tea Party Members of Congress and demand a solution. Beginning today, the DCCC will connect Americans in 23 districts directly with their Members of Congress to encourage these Tea Party House Republicans to stop protecting tax breaks for the well-off and well-connected at the expense of the middle class.

“We’re a day away from the disastrous consequences of sequester, yet Tea Party House Republicans are unwilling to compromise and uninterested in solutions,” said Emily Bittner of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Grassroots Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans are standing up and telling Tea Party House Republicans that it’s time to cut spending the responsible way – by ending tax loopholes for Big Oil companies and billionaires – instead of through this indiscriminate sequester that jeopardizes Head Start for kids and critical, job-creating research at colleges and universities.”

An example of the phone call in Congressman Dan Benishek’s (MI-01) district is below:

Hello. This is Jennifer calling from the DCCC. On March 1st, America’s middle class is going to pay a terrible price because Congressman Dan Benishek backed a sequester plan that will eliminate more than 2 million jobs, slow our economy and may drive us back into a recession.

It can be stopped. Congress can pass a balanced plan that reduces the deficit with smart spending cuts, ends tax breaks for millionaires and closes wasteful tax loopholes for Big Oil companies that are already making record profits.

But Congressman Benishek refuses. He won’t compromise on a solution for the middle class because he is protecting tax breaks for the well-off and well-connected.  These cuts will be devastating and could set us back for a generation.

Unfortunately, Congressman Benishek is siding with the worst kind of Tea Party dysfunction and partisanship in Washington, instead of solving problems and protecting the middle class.

Press 1 right now if you’d like me to connect you directly with Congressman Benishek to demand that he gets behind a plan to end the sequester and put the middle class ahead of millionaires and corporate special interests.
