DCCC Chairman Steve Israel Announces 4 New Red to Blue Races
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel today announced four more races that have qualified for the highly competitive Red to Blue program, bringing the total to 50 top-tier races in the DCCC’s ‘Drive for 25’ campaign to win the House – twice as many as Democrats need to win the Majority. In addition, Chairman Israel announced three new Emerging Races. This latest wave of candidates earned a spot on Red to Blue by exceeding demanding fundraising, organization and infrastructure goals. These candidates are problem solvers who will create jobs, strengthen the middle class and protect seniors against the Ryan budget that ends Medicare while giving tax breaks to millionaires.
Recent polling shows Democratic challengers surging and Republicans in trouble. A NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows Democrats with a 5-point lead (47 percent to 42 percent) on the congressional generic ballot. Just a month ago, Democrats only had a 1-point lead.
“The newest wave of candidates to earn a spot in the highly competitive Red to Blue program are expanding the map and looking increasingly strong as more races come into play and Republicans face rejection from voters,” said DCCC Chairman Steve Israel. “These candidates will aggressively hold Republicans accountable for supporting Ryan’s budget that ends Medicare and raises health care costs on seniors, while protecting tax breaks for millionaires. These top-tier Democratic candidates will address the American people’s top priorities by protecting Medicare, strengthening the middle class and creating jobs. They are taking the fight to their Republican opponents and will continue to stay on offense as Allyson Schwartz, Jared Polis and Donna Edwards help them build winning campaigns.”
Congressman Jared Polis (CO) and Congresswoman Donna Edwards (MD) co-chair the Red to Blue program, and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz serves as the National Chair for Recruitment and Candidate Services.
