DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Black History Month

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement in honor of Black History Month, which is celebrated throughout February:

“Black History Month is a time of reminder and rededication. We remind ourselves of the achievements of African Americans as entrepreneurs, innovators, political and Civil Rights leaders, soldiers, teachers, small business men and women, and artists. Their efforts remain critical to reigniting the American dream, making our union more perfect, and our country more prosperous. But we must also rededicate ourselves to the work that remains.

“This month we honor Assistant Leader Jim Clyburn, Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Emanuel Cleaver, Congressman John Lewis, and CBC Members for leading the charge for fairness, opportunity, economic progress, and defending the voting rights of all Americans. Every month we honor their courage, sacrifice and leadership in the cause of justice.

“The best way we can honor Black History Month is by continuing to fight Republicans’ ideological assault against voting rights and efforts to disenfranchise African American voters.”
