DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Women’s Equality Day
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on the 91st anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment:
“On the 91st anniversary of passing the 19th amendment of the Constitution that gave women the right to vote we celebrate progress for women. We also acknowledge the 52 tremendous Democratic women serving in the House led by the first woman Speaker of the House, Leader Nancy Pelosi. Democrats have blazed a path for opportunity and progress for women, passing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and historic health care reform that ends abusive insurance practices that discriminate against women.
“As we celebrate this anniversary on Women’s Equality Day, Republicans are waging the most radical ideological assault we’ve seen against women in decades. We will continue to fight against the Republicans’ extreme agenda that would end Medicare, restrict a woman’s right to choose and deny women health care and family planning services.”
