DCCC Releases “Worked for Them” TV Ad Targeting Jonathan “Payday” Paton
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching their second Independent Expenditure campaign TV ad hitting Republican congressional candidate Jonathan Paton (AZ-01) for pushing a bailout for the payday lending industry, while Arizonans voted overwhelmingly to end the predatory practice that costs families nearly $149 million in interest and fees each year. As a candidate, Payday Paton also took thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from payday lenders and made thousands more lobbying on their behalf. The ad began airing Tuesday.
Script “Worked for Them”
Announcer: Pay day lenders.
They made millions from our misery.
So we stood together. Took them on.
But Jonathan Paton stood with them.
Took thousands from them.
Backed legislation allowing them to charge a hundred eighty percent interest.
Worse, Paton made thousands as a lobbyist for the pay day lending industry.
When it mattered most, Jonathan Paton worked -- for them.
