DCCC Statement on Kerry Bentivolio’s Nomination in Michigan 11
Despite a cheerful jingle and backroom scheming, establishment Michigan Republicans could not thwart Ron Paul Tea Party darling Kerry Bentivolio who was propelled to victory in tonight's primary by Congressman Thad McCotter's abrupt retirement. For Bentivolio, a reindeer rancher and Santa impersonator, it's Christmas in August. For Washington Republicans, tonight's defeat is going to leave a mark.
“Washington Republicans face a daunting new setback over a seat that shouldn't be causing them heartburn because Kerry Bentivolio is so out-of-step that his own party didn’t want him,” said Haley Morris of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Now after conspiring against him, establishment Republicans are stuck with Kerry Bentivolio, a candidate so bizarre and out of touch, it's unclear who beyond the extreme right wing would ever embrace him.”
