Democrats lead by 5 points in NBC/WSJ Poll, Ryan Budget Drags Down House Republicans
A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released tonight shows Democrats have taken a 5-point lead in the generic ballot for Congress (47 percent to 42 percent). In mid July, this poll showed Democrats with a 1-point lead (46 percent to 45 percent).
- A stunning 54 percent of voters believe Republican candidates are "out of step" while only 38 percent believe they're in the main stream. Approximately an equal amount of voters believe Democratic candidates are "in the mainstream" versus "out of step."
- By a 2-to-1 margin, voters think the Ryan budget is a bad idea – 30 percent saying it’s a bad idea while only 15 percent said it’s a good idea.
Earlier today two other polls showed that voters strongly reject the Ryan budget that ends Medicare:
- A Pew Research Center poll shows that informed adults oppose the Ryan budget by a 15-point margin (49 percent to 34 percent). The poll also found the lead expands to a 31-point margin (55 percent to 24 percent) among seniors age 65-and-older who believe Medicare shouldn’t be replaced with vouchers like the Republican budget does.
- A Public Policy Polling poll showed that registered voters oppose the Medicare-ending Ryan budget by 9 points (45 percent to 36 percent). The poll also found that 63 percent of voters said that Medicare shouldn’t be replaced with vouchers like the Ryan budget does.
