Democrats on Offense, DCCC Launches New Campaign About Republicans’ Plan to Put Insurance Companies
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) continued on offense today after the Supreme Court ruling and launched a new campaign to expose House Republicans working for the interests of their insurance company contributors instead of protecting middle class families. The campaign begins today with new automated and live phone calls in 10 targeted districts in the latest phase in the “Drive for 25” campaign, the DCCC's plan to win the House.
After the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act last week, House Republicans pledged to rip “out by its roots” consumer protections that stop insurance companies from dropping coverage for people who get sick, deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions like asthma, heart disease, or cancer and re-open the prescription drug ‘donut hole’ that would raise costs for seniors. While House Republicans push to repeal these benefits from middle class families, they have protected taxpayer-funded health care for Members of Congress.
"Democrats are on offense as we expose these House Republicans for standing up for insurance companies and Congressional perks instead of protecting consumers," said DCCC Chairman Steve Israel. "For 18 months, Republicans have been on defense for protecting millionaires over Medicare and now they're planning another vote to put insurance companies back in charge of our health care at the expense of middle class families and consumers."
An example of an automated phone call in Congressman Dan Lungren’s (CA-07) district follows:
Hi, this is Louise from the DCCC calling with a warning. Congressman Lungren has gone Washington. After taking $122,600 from insurance companies, Congressman Dan Lungren wants to put insurance companies back in charge of our health care and let them:
- deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions like asthma, heart disease and cancer
- allow them to cut back your health benefits
- throw some kids off their parents insurance
- and roll back prescription coverage for seniors
Congressman Dan Lungren already voted for deep cuts to Medicare to fund more tax breaks for millionaires and corporations. He even voted to protect the government healthcare plan funded with your tax dollars for members of Congress. But now he could vote to let insurance corporations cut back your health benefits.
Congressman Dan Lungren is looking out for him and the big insurance corporations that fund his campaign, not the middle class.
Call Congressman Dan Lungren at (916) 859-9906 and tell him to stop looking out for perks and special interest contributors.
The calls begin today in the following districts:
CA-07 Congressman Dan Lungren
CA-36 Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack
IL-10 Congressman Robert Dold
IL-11 Congresswoman Judy Biggert
IL-13 Rodney Davis*
IL-17 Congressman Bobby Schilling
MD-06 Congressman Roscoe Bartlett
NY-18 Congresswoman Nan Hayworth
NY-19 Congressman Chris Gibson
NY-24 Congresswoman Anne Marie Buerkle
*a slightly different version of the script will be run in the districts of non incumbent Republican Members of Congress
