Jesse Kelly: With A Little Help From His Friends
While Tea Party candidate Jesse Kelly does his best to avoid talking to the press, Arizona voters can learn a lot by checking out his campaign supporters. From a white supremacist, anti-Semitic, neo-Nazi group; a national leader in privatizing Social Security; a corrupt campaign fundraiser under FBI investigation; and conservative oil billionaires, Jesse Kelly’s friends tell voters a lot about who he would fight for in Congress.
Jesse Kelly’s Friends
- ALIPAC. Kelly still refuses to answer questions about support from an organization with white supremacist, anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi ties that has been condemned by the Anti-Defamation League, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and even Senator John McCain’s campaign. [KGUN9, 5/23/12]
- Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn. Last weekend, Kelly hosted Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, a national co-sponsor of legislation to privatize Social Security, to raise money for his campaign. Blackburn’s proposal would turn Social Security into a “private retirement savings option” — a risky scheme that gambles seniors’ hard-earned Social Security on Wall Street. [The Hill, 6/6/11]
- Congressman Vern Buchanan. Buchanan is pumping money into Kelly’s campaign despite the fact he’s under investigation for a campaign finance scheme by the FBI, IRS, and a federal grand jury, and the bipartisan House Ethics Committee is looking into “federal bribery, obstruction and witness tampering.” [New York Times, 2/23/12; Bradenton Herald, 5/09/12]
The Koch brothers. KOCHPAC has started putting money into Kelly’s campaign. According to a Bloomberg investigation, these shadowy, conservative Big Oil billionaires profited from business with Iran, despite U.S. sanctions, and paid bribes to get business in six different countries.
