Off message, but nonetheless…
Couldn’t resist beating the big boys to the punch on this:
McCain: Kerry Isn’t ‘Weak’
Republican rebuts Bush-Cheney attacks on national security issues
“This kind of rhetoric, I think, is not helpful in educating and helping the American people make a choice,” McCain said on “The Early Show” on CBS.
Also, if you didn’t catch it, Howie Kurtz had a good column in today’s post as well:
After months of getting hammered on the WMD issue, Bush is now on the defensive over Medicare—and, more broadly, whether his administration is playing fast and loose with the facts.
And finally (back on topic), the Post ran a great editorial today, entitled,
Contempt for Congress
TENSION BETWEEN THE executive and legislative branches is inevitable, but the Bush administration has tended to treat Congress with an arrogance bordering on contempt. The latest illustration involves the report that the Medicare chief actuary was threatened with firing if he gave lawmakers his analysis of the likely costs of the new prescription drug legislation.
All this over a measly “dispute”?
