$#*! Republicans Say This August Recess, Part 2

The first two weeks of August recess have given us a window into the soul of the House Republican Caucus: from the rebirth of the birther movement, to elevating rodeo clowns who impersonate the President, to calling global warming a “plot” for a government takeover, or accusing Latino immigrants of harboring terrorists –  House Republicans continue to prove they’re focused on extreme and hateful rhetoric, not job creation and strengthening the middle class.

With three weeks left, take a look yourself at $#*! Republicans Say this August Recess. You can also review the tumblr at http://goprebrand.tumblr.com/

  • New! “A Tennessee tea party Republican congressman told a frightened little girl at a town hall meeting on Thursday in Murfeesboro, TN that laws are laws and that her undocumented father is going to have to be deported.” [Raw Story, 8/18/13]
  • New! “Rep. Steve King said Friday that President Barack Obama should invite the Missouri rodeo clown who performed a stunt with a bull while wearing an Obama mask to the White House for a beer summit.” [Politico, 8/16/13]
  • New! “[Congressman Steve] Pearce is also constantly reminding audiences that he was among 12 Republicans who did not vote in January to reelect John Boehner as House speaker. ‘Probably the most popular vote I’ve made, in this district,’ he says. When he tells audiences he cast that vote, Pearce says he gets, ‘Always applause, sometimes standing applause.’” [Salon, 8/15/13]

  • “Rep. Louie Gohmert – a relentless critic of the Obama administration – is now blaming the president for inciting racial violence to a level not seen since the 1960s.”[Houston Chronicle, 8/13/13]
  • “Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., believes increasing minimum wage so that it has the buying power it had in 1968 would make fast food quadruple in price. ‘You guys want to pay $20 for a hamburger at McDonald’s?’ Mullin asked a town hall meeting in Oklahoma last Thursday.” [Opposing Views, 8/12/13]
  • “Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) told constituents at an event Saturday in his district that, although it would amount to a fruitless effort that could potentially damage the country, Republicans have the votes in the House to impeach President Barack Obama. Fielding a question from a birther at a gathering in Luling, Texas, Farnethold at first lamented that Congress didn't do more to investigate Obama's birth certificate.” [Talking Points Memo, 8/12/13]
  • “Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), a senior member of the House Science Committee, used a portion of his time at a town hall this week to launch into a rant about global warming, which he described as a plot by liberals to ‘create global government to control our lives.’” [The Nation, 8/10/13]
  • Buck McKeon: Terrorists May 'Mingle In' With Latinos To Cross Border. [The Huffington Post, 8/9/13]

  • “Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) says he knows why Democrats are winning the argument on health care reform: They get help from sad-looking people in wheelchairs.” [The Huffington Post, 8/8/13]
  • “U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Gainesville, has drawn national attention and scrutiny in recent days for comments questioning the authenticity of the President Barack Obama's birth certificate and declaring as "racist" a tanning bed tax that's part of the Affordable Care Act. […]'" [The Ledger, 8/7/13]
