The Truth about Congressman Dold’s Tea Party Agenda in Washington
Congressman Robert Dold falsely claimed he’s an “an independent voice” in his first campaign ad, but since coming to Washington, Congressman Dold has become part of the problem in the Tea Party run Congress.
According to the Washington Post , on every major vote he cast, Congressman Dold has been a reliable supporter of the Republican Party agenda, pushing ideological attacks on a woman’s right to choose, wasting $50 million on symbolic votes to repeal health care reform, and even favoring the extreme Republican budget that drastically cuts Medicare, but preserves tax breaks for billionaires and Big Oil.
In fact, because of his Tea Party record, Congressman Dold continues to lose critical endorsements that previously went to his predecessor, now Senator Mark Kirk. From the Human Rights Campaign to the League of Conservation Voters, NARAL, and Illinois firefighters, people in Illinois are rejecting Congressman Dold’s participation in the Tea Party-fed dysfunctional environment in Washington.
Congressman Dold Voted to Protect Insurance Companies Profits. On July 11, 2012, Congressman Dold voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Eliminating this piece of legislation would allow insurance companies to: (1) discriminate against patients with preexisting conditions; (2) charge women more than men for health coverage; (3) kick young adults off their parents plan; and (4) reconstitute lifetime and annual limits for health care benefits. Additionally, repealing the law would reopen the prescription drug donut hole and remove preventative health care screenings from Medicare. [HR 6079, Vote #460, 7/11/12]
Congressman Dold Voted to Defund Planned Parenthood. On February 19, 2011, Congressman Dold voted for a bill that would have “reinstated the D.C. abortion ban, eliminated the Title X family-planning program, defunded Planned Parenthood, reinstated the global gag rule, and eliminated funding for the United Nations Population Fund.” [HR 1, Vote #147 <http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll147.xml> , 2/19/11; NARAL’s Congressional Record on Choice, 2011]
Congressman Dold Voted to End Medicare, Protect Millionaires and Big Oil. On March 29, 2012, Congressman Dold supported a budget that would end Medicare’s guaranteed benefit, protects $40 billion in tax breaks for big oil, and provides people earning more than $1 million a year with an average tax cut of $394,000.
