Who Will Be The Next House Republican To Jump Off Their Sinking Ship?

POLITICO:

HUDDLE FIRST LOOK: DCCC ASKS WHO’S NEXT TO CALL IT QUITS? – In news releases later today, the DCCC will identify 11 House Republicans who might be next to “jump off their sinking ship.”

The retirement pressure is on for Republicans, as this week Arkansas Congressman Tim Griffin became the 13th Republican to abandon the party’s sinking ship -- who will be the next Congressmanto get out, instead of sticking around to defend this reckless Republican Congress? (To date, no House Democrats have retired.)

Here are some of our guesses:

  • Don Young (AK-AL)
  • Gary Miller (CA-31)
  • Fred Upton (MI-06)
  • John Kline (MN-02)
  • Howard Coble (NC-06)
  • Frank LoBiondo (NJ-02)
  • Peter King (NY-02)
  • Mike Fitzpatrick (PA-08)
  • Frank Wolf (VA-10)
  • Dave Reichert (WA-08)

As these Congressmen contemplates their political future, they are undoubtedly watching the Republican Congress’ descent into unheard-of levels of unpopularity post-shutdown, with the lowest favorability in history [Gallup poll] and a majority who say it’s bad for the country that Republicans control the House [CNN].

On Monday, Congressman Tim Griffin saw the writing on the wall and announced that he wouldn’t seek a third term. Since August, Griffin has been hounded by constituents that are angry that he voted to shutdown the government all in the name of taking away their health care benefits. Griffin is the 13th Republican to abandon the party in the House this year.

Given the damage these House Republicans have inflicted on our economy and middle class families’ financial security, theymight find quiet retirement is a better option.
