Poll Shows Dead Heat in MD-01
DCCC Press:
A Grove Insight poll of 400 likely voters conducted September 9-12 shows that the race to replace Congressman Wayne Gilchrest in Maryland's first congressional district is in a dead heat. The uninformed head to head between Democrat Frank Kratovil and Republican Andy Harris is 36 percent - 36 percent with 25 percent undecided and a 4.9 percent margin of error.
The economy, access to affordable health care and cutting taxes are the three top issues according to Maryland voters. And when asked whether Congressman Gilchrest's endorsement makes respondents more or less likely to vote for Frank Kratovil, one in four independent voters and one in three voters over the age of 60 said Gilchrest's endorsement makes them more likely to vote for Frank Kratovil.
"This poll shows that momentum is on Frank Kratovil's side," said Carrie James, regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "This moderate district is looking for an independent voice and Andy Harris' extreme record of supporting more tax cuts for the wealthiest few while middle class families struggle is simply out of touch. Frank Kratovil's commitment to energy independence and reducing the cost of gasoline through both immediate and long term solutions along with his bipartisan appeal is resonating throughout the district."
