Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is naming Republican Congressman Steve Knight (CA-25) a “One-Term Wonder.” Knight joins a list of 16 other vulnerable Republican freshmen who were swept up in the 2014 election and will be swept out in 2016.

Congressman Knight’s new designation comes after a bizarre incident where Knight told a resident that he would “drop your ass.” The dangerous episode, combined with a shameful congressional record, weak fundraising in Los Angeles’ expensive media market, and a rapidly changing electorate make Knight a top DCCC target for 2016.

“’One-Term Wonder’ Congressman Steve Knight’s comments give new meaning to ‘smash hit,’ but he won’t be able to threaten his way out of answering for his reckless behavior and agenda,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC.  “Democrats are on offense this cycle.  We will work tirelessly to highlight how out-of-step ‘One-Term Wonders’ like Knight are with their constituents, and we’re confident that they’ll return the favor and ‘drop’ him next fall.”

Take it from Knight himself: “Our first-quarter fundraising was really bad.” Knight brought in a whopping $28,000 in the first quarter while owing over $50,000. This comes after the less-than-stellar $415,000 raised over the entire 2014 cycle.

California’s 25th District covers parts of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Almost half of the voting age population in CA-25 is non-white and in 2014, Democratic voter registration surpassed Republican registration.
