Comstock’s Longtime Mentor, Former Rep. Frank Wolf, Endorses Donald Trump

“As more and more of Barbara Comstock’s closest allies shed light on her plan to support Donald Trump for president, she continues to cynically play coy.  Comstock doesn’t have the courage to stand up to Trump, and voters will soon realize why: they share a strikingly similar reckless agenda.” – said Jermaine House, DCCC Spokesman.

Long-time Congressman Frank Wolf, a Republican from Northern Virginia’s 10th District, on Saturday endorsed Donald Trump’s campaign for president.

Speaking to the Times-Mirror following Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence’s rally in Purcellville, Wolf said it was Trump’s selection of Pence as his running mate that brought him on board.

“The fact that Mike Pence is on the ticket raises my comfort level,” Wolf, who spent 34 years in the House, said in a brief interview. “Mike Pence is one of the most honest, ethical, decent, moral men that I’ve ever served with.”

Wolf said he supported Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the GOP primary. He served alongside Pence in Congress from 2001-2013.

First-term Rep. Barbara Comstock, Wolf’s Republican successor and protégé, has thus far refused to endorse Trump.

Wolf declined to answer whether he felt Comstock should get involved in the race through an endorsement or campaigning alongside the Trump team.

Spokesmen for Comstock’s re-election campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Comstock is being challenged by Democrat LuAnn Bennett in November. The Democrat’s campaign quickly zeroed in on Wolf’s endorsement.

“With her mentor’s endorsement of Trump, it’s even more clear that Rep. Comstock will support Trump this November,” Bennett spokesman Robert Howard said. “As [Loudoun County Republican Committee Chairman Will Estrada] recently confirmed, Comstock and Trump share the same principles.”

Howard was referencing a recent BBC story in which Estrada said, “Barbara is doing what a lot of voters are doing – they support the principles that Donald Trump stands for as a Republican, but they’re still making up their minds.”
