About Harry Teague
Harry moved to eastern New Mexico from Oklahoma when he was nine years old. When his father became ill, Harry went to work in the oil fields for $1.50 an hour. Through hard work and dedication, he built his way up and eventually started a successful business that now employs over 250 people.
Harry Teague ran for and was elected to serve 8 years on the Lea County Board of Commissioners. Though the commission was controlled by Republicans, they voted him chairman for three and a half years. While a commissioner, Harry took the lead in bringing the racetrack and casino and the uranium enrichment facility to Lea County. Over the past decade, Harry has helped create over 3000 jobs. Today, Lea County remains New Mexico's leader in economic development, with the lowest unemployment rate in the entire state.
Harry has been actively involved in the community for over 25 years. He has served as a member and chairman of many boards, for groups including, Lea County Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lea County Fair, Black Gold Race Track and Casino, LES Enrichment Facility and the Boys and Girls Club of Hobbs, among many others. He was also appointed to serve on the New Mexico State Transportation Committee and the Association of Commerce and Industry.
Harry is married to his wife of 38 years, Nancy, and has two children and five grandchildren, all of whom reside in Southern New Mexico.
