People are smarter than politicians, and Texans in the 10th Congressional District are proving that once again. In a map that could only be created by Tom DeLay, communities were divided for purely partisan, political reasons. Despite DeLay's efforts, people from Western Harris County to Eastern Travis County and all points in between are demanding accountability and uniting against the ultra-partisan agenda of the past eight years.

Larry Joe Doherty is leading the effort that's bringing regular Texans together. A leader who takes the time to listen, Larry Joe has also proven he has the courage to take a stand when the rules of fair play are not applied evenly to all.

A successful Houston attorney, Larry Joe decided to hang up his own shingle when he realized that people had nowhere to turn if the person who wronged them was their own lawyer. A senior partner in the law firm of Doherty, Long and Wagner, Larry Joe specialized in legal malpractice, because, as he explains, "people need to believe that the rule of law applies equally to everyone - and that no one, no matter how powerful, is beyond being held accountable for their actions."

If that principle applies in the halls of courthouses across Texas, Larry Joe believes it should apply in the halls of Congress and the White House, as well.

Known nationally for his stance on legal ethics, Larry Joe and his wife Joanne endowed a Chair on Ethics at the University of Houston School of Law.

Although Larry's pursuit of justice for his clients is serious business, he may be best known for service on the bench of television's highly rated courtroom series, TEXAS JUSTICE. In his persona "Judge Larry Joe Doherty," he drew from his years of experience to make legally binding decisions that went beyond anger and revenge and forced people to accept responsibility for their actions and address the root causes of their conflicts.

Outside of the courtroom, Larry Joe takes his message of doing right and accepting responsibility to heart - cultivating his ranch into a preserve that protects animals and the environment. Larry Joe is past president of the Washington County Wildlife Society and a member of the Texas Wildlife Association and a past member of the Texas Quail Council. As a writer and published poet, he draws upon his family life, marriage of 38 years, and Texas heritage for inspiration.

As our next Congressman, Larry Joe Doherty will take his message of responsibility, accountability, and Texas common sense to Washington and work to get our nation back on track.
