“The purpose of the Republicans’ $4.5 million Benghazi Committee has been clarified: to politicize the death of four Americans for the sake of hurting Hillary Clinton in the polls,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC. “Republican members of the Benghazi Committee originally claimed that it was created to obtain the truth, but the actual goal – carrying out their party’s dirty political attacks – is now offensively clear. All Republicans should immediately terminate their membership with the House Benghazi Committee.”

On Tuesday evening, potential House Speaker Kevin McCarthy revealed that the House Select Committee on Benghazi was created with a purely political purpose: to harm Secretary of State Clinton’s political future and ultimately defeat her in the Presidential contest. Given the now astonishingly clear political goal of the taxpayer-funded Benghazi Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is calling on Mike Pompeo to immediately terminate his position on the Benghazi Committee. There is a chorus in Washington D.C. that the Select Committee be disbanded and an ethics complaint has already been launched against Kevin McCarthy.
This Republican-created House Select Committee on Benghazi has cost taxpayers over $4.5 million, and was initially created with the now disproven mission of finding truth and information regarding the death of four Americans during a terrorist attack. Mike Pompeo said:
“I, along with other Republican members of our committee, remain committed to the mission we have been given: to do all that we can to obtain the truth about the events surrounding this tragic event and to share all of the facts with the families of the deceased and with the American people.”
As ABC News has reported, the Benghazi investigation is officially the longest special congressional investigation in history. Rep. McCarthy just clarified why: Mike Pompeo and his colleagues are using this official Committee to do their party’s dirty political work. Pompeo should take a stand and step down from this Committee in order to avoid further politicizing American deaths.
