Ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching a targeted digital ad campaign calling on Congressman Lee Zeldin ‘Declare his Independence’ from the Oath Keepers, an extremist rightwing militia group most famous for their radical views and hateful rhetoric .
Zeldin had his most recent meeting with the Long Island Oath Keepers less than two weeks ago – seemingly feeling right at home with a group flagged by Southern Poverty Law Center as “particularly worrisome.”
Among the many Oath Keepers’ many statements and beliefs Zeldin might want to take the chance to declare his independence from:
- The Oath Keeper’s founder calling John McCain a traitor who “should be hung by the neck until dead.”
The Oath Keepers are from the only fringe rightwing company Zeldin has been keeping lately. Recently Zeldin joined fellow Tea Party firebrand and former Congressman Allen West for a PAC event and received the endorsement of former Ambassador John Bolton and the promise of funding from his far right fringe group.
“Again and again, Congressman Zeldin has cozied up to the far-right and forgotten Long Island’s hard-working families,” said Jeb Fain of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Long Islanders deserve a Representative who will look out for them instead of holding allegiances to radical fringe groups.”
