Campaign During American Education Week Targets Students and Families in IL-13

In honor of American Education Week the DCCC has launched a paid digital advertising campaign (image below) reminding Illinoisans of Congressman Rodney Davis’s vote for drastic cuts to education programs.

The digital ad will target students and families in Illinois’s 13th District, making Rodney Davis’s actions against Illinoisans’ best interests even more clear. Earlier this year, Davis voted with House Republicans to freeze the maximum Pell Grant award for ten years, effectively cutting the grant program that more than 345,500 Illinois students rely on.

In August, Illinois college students even delivered Davis a report card grading him on his record. As they put it, “it had a lot of F’s.”

Past House Republican budgets, written by now-Speaker Paul D. Ryan, contained similar harmful cuts to education programs while at the same time giving massive tax breaks to corporations. Just last month, Rodney Davis reaffirmed his support for this vision with his vote for Paul Ryan for Speaker of the House.

“Illinois students have already given Rodney Davis an ‘F’ for his votes on issues facing Illinois students, families, and seniors, but Davis has done nothing to improve his failing grades,” said Sacha Haworth of the DCCC. “This week, voters should remember that Rodney Davis’s votes to cut education funding for students of all ages are what has earned him a spot on Washington Republicans’ Most Vulnerable List.”

Davis Voted To Cut The Pell Grants More Than 345,500 Illinois Students Rely On. According to the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, 345,583 Illinois students received federal Pell Grants in 2014-2015, representing $1,184,944,794 in college aid.  In IL-13, 31,525 students were awarded Pell grants representing $116,126,235 in aid.
