DCCC Launches Spanish Robocalls Hitting Vulnerable Republicans for Siding with Immigration Hardliners Over DREAMers

Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching Spanish robocalls highlighting several vulnerable Republicans’ recent vote against DREAMers who want to serve in our military. During consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act, these House members voted with the immigration extremists in their party, rather than with hardworking young people who came to this country through no fault of their own and now want a chance to serve in our nation’s military.

The robocall campaign targets Spanish speaking households in the following districts: VA-10 (Barbara Comstock), TX-23 (Will Hurd), NV-03 (Joe Heck), NV-04 (Cresent Hardy), CA-25 (Steve Knight).

“It is clear that today’s Republican Party is controlled by immigration hardliners who have no appreciation for the contributions that DREAMers make to our nation and want to make to our armed forces,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC. “Anti-immigration extremists are calling the shots and House Republicans are all too happy to comply. This week, we are calling voters in key districts to make sure they know that their Member of Congress lacks the courage to do the right thing.”

Following is an example script of the robocalls that will reach Spanish-language households in these districts:

(English translation):

“This is XX calling from the DCCC. Recently, Republicans in Congress and Joe Heck voted to deny children brought to the U.S. through no fault of their own – or “DREAMers” – a chance to serve in our nation’s military.

Honorable young men and women that want to volunteer to risk their lives for our country’s safety and security deserve the chance to serve.

Instead, Republicans in Congress continue to unfairly discriminate against DREAMers.

Call Congressman Heck at 702-387-4941 and tell him that DREAMers who want to serve deserve our thanks, not more discrimination.”
