Taxpayer-Funded Benghazi Committee Created With Singular Purpose: to Defeat Hillary Clinton, Not Seek Truth Behind Death of Four Americans
On Tuesday evening, potential Speaker Kevin McCarthy revealed that the House Select Committee on Benghazi was created with one purely political purpose: to harm Secretary of State Clinton’s political future and ultimately defeat her in the Presidential contest. Given the now astonishingly clear political goal of the taxpayer-funded Benghazi Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is calling on Committee Chair Congressman Trey Gowdy to immediately terminate the Benghazi Committee. There is a chorus in Washington D.C. that the Select Committee be disbanded and an ethics complaint has already been launched against Kevin McCarthy.
This Republican-created House Select Committee on Benghazi has cost taxpayers over $4.5 million dollars and was initially created with the now disproven mission of finding truth and information regarding the death of four Americans during a terrorist attack. Congressman Gowdy himself said on the credibility of his committee, “I think the worst thing in the world would be for us to find the facts and have nobody believe us because of the manner in which we conducted ourselves.”
According to Congressman Gowdy’s own words, “the worst thing in the world” has happened.
As ABC News has reported, the Benghazi investigation is officially the longest special congressional investigation in history. And now we know why. Chairman Gowdy and his colleagues were using this official Committee to do their party’s dirty political work. Congressman Gowdy should take a stand and terminate this Committee in order to avoid further politicizing American deaths.
“The purpose of the Republican’s $4.5 million Benghazi Committee has now been made clear: to politicize the death of four Americans for the sake of dropping Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers,” said DCCC Spokesman Jermaine House. “Congressman Gowdy, the chairman, originally claimed that his Committee was for the purpose of investigating a terrorist attack, and it is now clear that its goal was political dirty work instead. Taxpayers in South Carolina deserve better and Congressman Gowdy should immediately terminate his Chairmanship of the House Select Benghazi Committee.”
