Earth Day Alert: Benishek Still a Proud Member of Climate Denier Caucus

Happy Earth Day to Congressman Dan Benishek, who remains a proud member of the climate change denier caucus, maintaining a position that not only defies logic, but also 97 percent of climate scientists. Like his recent announcement that he is breaking his own promise to Michigan voters to serve three terms in Congress, Benishek’s climate change denial is just one example of how much he’s fallen in line with Washington special interests.

“You don’t need to be an astronomer to trust that the sun will rise in the morning and you don’t need to be a scientist to know that climate change is real,” said Matt Thornton of the DCCC. “It’s time for Congressman Benishek to realize that refuting scientific facts is yet another betrayal of Michigan voters.”

Background:

Benishek Claimed Climate Change was “Baloney” and “Some Scheme”: In 2010, Benishek was asked about his opinions on climate change and global warming. “I think it is all baloney. I think it is just some scheme,” he said. “I mean I don’t just believe it,” Benishek said.  “I just don’t believe it and I am a scientist. I am a surgeon. I’ve done scientific research papers. There’s a lot of skepticism. You have to have reproductive results when you do scientific papers. And there is something like that in the science that they have. So, I mean to spend trillions of our dollars on this unproven science stuff is ridiculous. I am against that.” [Caucus Interview with Dan Benishek, 5/24/10]
