General Election Update: McSally still refuses to answer questions about Trump

McSally’s moral cowardice towards Trump only worsens a bad political environment for Republicans

As we have pointed out, Trump will continue to alienate swing voters, causing a big math problem for McSally who is already facing a tougher reelection with increased presidential year Democratic turnout. Indefensibly, Arizonans are still left wondering why Congresswoman Martha McSally will not disavow Trump. As the Daily Star’s Tim Steller wrote earlier this month:

“… you can ask our elected leaders to take a principled stand despite the political effects and appearances. I still think the danger of Trump demands that.”

With a history of avoiding the press, giving obtuse and evasive answers to straightforward questions, and neglecting to disclose the proper information about her donors, it’s unfortunately predictable that she is refusing to tell her constituents and the press the truth about her willingness to support Trump in November.

“Given that Donald Trump is in Arizona today and Congresswoman McSally is still on recess, this is a perfect time for her to stop hiding and start answering reporters’ legitimate questions about her support of Trump,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law.

Here are several necessary questions that McSally has not answered:

  • Is it disqualifying for a potential Commander in Chief to attack a Gold Star Family? (Note: a Gold Star father and veteran has already criticized McSally for putting party before country.)
  • Do you trust Trump with the nuclear codes? (Note: McCain hedged on this answer.)
  • Do you trust a Commander in Chief who is not committed to NATO?
  • Why do you think your position on choosing the next president should be kept secret from your constituents?
