U.S. Congressman Scott Tipton appears to have fanned the flames of what was already shaping up to be a tough re-election campaign. Tipton faces challengers hoping to deny him another term representing the 3rd Congressional District in Colorado — both within his party and from recently declared Democratic candidate Gail Schwartz. It can hardly be good news for the three-term congressman that his recently released draft legislation aimed at disposing of oil and gas leases within the Thompson Divide region of the White River National Forest — including the northernmost tip of Gunnison County — has stirred a storm of controversy.
