John Katko refuses to be straightforward with his constituents about his support for Donald Trump as President. At the very least, Katko should answer a much simpler question: does he trust Donald Trump – and his hotheaded temperament – with our nation’s nuclear codes?
It should be a simple question. And yet so far, other Republican candidates across the country have dodged the question and waffled on their answers.
Will John Katko follow these Senators’ lead and play politics too? Refusing to answer would clearly demonstrate that Katko knows Trump shouldn’t hold the nuclear codes, but still won’t stand up to him in order to keep our country safe.
And if John Katko makes clear that Trump does not have the temperament to be trusted with nuclear weapons, then why does Katko continue to leave the door open to supporting Trump, should he ‘change his tone’?
Either way, Central New York voters deserve an answer.
“At the very least, Congressman John Katko owes voters an answer on whether he trusts Donald Trump to handle our nation’s nuclear codes,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “If Congressman John Katko can’t be straight with voters about Trump’s temperament, then it’s clear that Katko puts Trump and his own party ahead of the safety of our country and can’t be trusted to independently stand up for Central New York.”
