On October 25th, President Bush said that failing to extend tax cuts is equivalent to a tax increase on the American people. He may not have realized that he was indicting his Rubber Stamp Republican Congress with his rhetoric today. The Republican Congress left town to campaign for re-election without voting on extending tax cuts for more than 19 million Americans and it has been more than five months since they let these critical middle class tax cuts expire. Democrats have repeatedly called for a vote on extending these critical tax cuts but Republicans blocked these efforts since May of this year.

"By President Bush's estimation, the Republican Congress is guilty of raising taxes on 19 million Americans when they left town last month. The president's message to congressional Republicans is clear: do as I say not as I do," said Bill Burton, communications director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Americans know that Republicans have run the country in the wrong direction on the economy and workers have the decreasing wages to prove it. Voters know the only way to change Congress is to change the people they send there."
