Your Move, Fred Upton

“I’ll be the first in line, and I’ll get a bunch of folks to join with me to make sure that we have enough to cover this.” – Fred Upton to WSW

The nonpartisan CBO report confirms what vulnerable Fred Upton already knew: his $8 billion amendment that convinced Republicans to pass the disastrous Ripoff and Repeal bill is a drop in the bucket and undermines protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

“Fred Upton is the reason this disastrous bill passed and he should stand by his word to disavow this bill,” said DCCC spokeswoman, Rachel Irwin. “The CBO report confirms what so many feared: Americans will face higher premiums and lose access to care. Your move Fred Upton, millions of Americans are waiting.”

Rep. Upton’s “yes” vote for this disastrous health care bill will end guaranteed protections for people with pre-existing conditions, like asthma, diabetes, cancer and even pregnancy. According to the CBO report, the funding that Upton proposed “would not be sufficient to substantially reduce the large increases in premiums for high-cost enrollees.”

Beyond that, the Republican Ripoff and Repeal bill will strip away health insurance from 23 million Americans, cause out-of-pocket costs like premiums and deductibles to skyrocket, and impose an unfair age tax on older Americans.
