Will the Real Jeb Bradley Stand Up Tomorrow?
President Bush visits Portsmouth, New Hampshire Wednesday to attempt to sell his Social Security privatization plan and local GOP Rep. Jeb Bradley is in the hot seat.
In the past, Bradley has claimed he opposes plans to privatize Social Security through private accounts:
"I am not undecided, " Bradley said. "I have taken the pledge. I will not support privatization of Social Security. That is crystal clear." [Associated Press, 10/17/02]
With President Bush campaigning in the heart of his district, will Bradley clearly state his opposition to the Republican plan to privatize Social Security?
"With President Bush campaigning to privatize Social Security in his New Hampshire district tomorrow, Rep. Bradley has a responsibility to tell his constituents where he stands," said DCCC Chairman Rahm Emanuel (IL). "As Yogi Berra said, 'when you come to a fork in the road, take it' -- Rep. Bradley can't claim to truly oppose privatization if he stays silent while the President campaigns to privatize Social Security in Portsmouth."
