New Local Polls Show Voters Looking for a New Direction

“With less than a month to go, Democratic candidates are beating their Republican opponents because in district after district families recognize that Democrats stand for a new direction,” said Bill Burton, communications director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “On issues ranging from national security to the economy, families across the country are looking for change and these latest local polls show that Democrats represent that change.”

IL-06 (Open): Tammy Duckworth (D) vs. Peter Roskam (R)

Head to Head: Duckworth 51%, Roskam 46%. Only 34% of voters in Illinois’ 6th district think that the country is going on the right track, while 57% say we’re headed down the wrong track and only 21% give President Bush a positive rating for the job he is doing. IA-01 (Open): Bruce Braley (D) vs. Mike Whalen (R)

Head to Head: Braley 48%, Whalen 37%. Only 27% of voters in Iowa’s 1st district think that the country is going on the right track, while 59% say we’re headed down the wrong track and only a 30% give President Bush a positive rating for the job he is doing. [Bennett, Petts, Blumenthal, 400 voters; October 5 and 8; margin of error 4.9%]

OH-18 (Open): Zack Space (D) vs. Joy Padgett (R)

Head to Head: Space 48%, Padgett 41%. Only 27% of voters in Ohio’s 18th district think that the country is going on the right track, while 64% say we’re headed down the wrong track. [Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, 400 voters; October 10-11; margin of error 5%]

PA-10: Chris Carney (D) vs. Don Sherwood (R-Incumbent)

Head to Head: Carney 51%, Sherwood 37%. Only 31% of voters in Pennsylvania’s 10th district think that the country is going on the right track, while 60% say we’re headed down the wrong track and only 41% give President Bush a positive rating for the job he is doing. [Bennett, Petts, Blumenthal, 400 voters; October 8-9; margin of error 4.9%]

VT-AL (Open): Peter Welch (D) vs. Martha Rainville (R)

Head to Head: Welch 52%, Rainville 41%. A stunning 19% of voters in Vermont think that the country is going on the right track, while 68% say we’re headed down the wrong track and only a 21% give President Bush a positive rating for the job he is doing.
