Columbus Dispatch - Ney aide subpoenaed

The Columbus Dispatch

Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed another senior aide to Rep. Bob Ney, R-Heath, as part of an investigation into Ney's links with now-disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. John Bennett, senior policy director in Ney's office, was ordered to testify and turn over documents to a federal grand jury investigating Ney. Prosecutors issued a similar subpoena this month to Matt Parker, who has served as district director for Ney's office in Ohio.

Prosecutors are investigating Ney for taking an expensive golf trip to Scotland for which his expenses were paid by Abramoff. Ney has denied wrongdoing. Neil Volz, Ney's former chief of staff, has pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges, telling prosecutors that Abramoff supplied Ney with trips and other gifts in return for legislative favors.
