A Revealing Endorsement of Carl DeMaio’s Republican Opponent

As San Diego-area politics remain in flux, former Congressman Duncan Hunter endorsed a Republican for Congress – Carl DeMaio’s challenger. As DeMaio – the handpicked candidate of national Republicans – continues to waver under scrutiny, it’s clear that DeMaio’s agenda holds little appeal even among fellow conservatives, as former Congressman Hunter pointedly is backing a little-known candidate.

“Carl DeMaio may be the handpicked candidate of Washington Republicans, but the San Diego voters who know DeMaio best are rejecting his record of opposing San Diego’s priorities,” said Matt Inzeo of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Even fellow Republicans want no part of Carl DeMaio and his extreme agenda.”

Background:

Former U.S. Rep Duncan L. Hunter Endorses Newcomer Kirk Jorgensen Over Carl DeMaio for 52nd District. “Former U.S. Rep. Duncan L. Hunter had endorsed newcomer Kirk Jorgensen over Carl DeMaio in the 2014 race for the 52nd Congressional District. Hunter, who served in the House of Representatives for 28 years and ran for president in 2008, said Jorgensen ‘represents qualities our community needs.’ Both men are U.S. Marine Corps veterans and Hunter is the father of current 50th Congressional District Rep. Duncan D. Hunter.” [San Diego Union-Tribune, 8/26/13]
