Lou Barletta Refuses to Set the Record Straight on His Sweetheart Loan Deal

According to his own Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, Lou Barletta received a sweetheart loan in 2002 – he got $65,000 from Legacy Bank of Harrisburg and never had to make a payment and was never charged interest. That is clearly against FEC laws.

Last week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) against Barletta. Despite Barletta spokesman David Millner's statement to the Wilkes Barre Times Leader that additional information would be available in “a few days,” Barletta has yet to account for this sweetheart deal.

“According to his own reports, Lou Barletta got a sweetheart deal that no other hardworking Pennsylvanians could get. It’s Barletta's responsibility to explain why he has yet to pay back the loan,” said Jennifer Crider, Communications Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Hardworking, responsible Pennsylvanians struggle to make regular payments on their college loans and mortgages – Lou Barletta is not to be exempt from the law, he must come clean why he hasn't made a single payment and no interest has been applied to his four year old $65,000 loan.”
