Chairman Israel’s Statement on Congresswoman-elect Hahn’s Victory
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement, congratulating Congresswoman-elect Janice Hahn, who won the special election in California’s 36th Congressional District:
“On behalf of the DCCC, congratulations to Congresswoman-elect Janice Hahn on her victory today.
“Congresswoman-elect Janice Hahn is a champion for California families and seniors and House Democrats look forward to welcoming her to Congress. She helped grow the economy by successfully advocating for a major modernization of Los Angeles International Airport to create jobs, attract airlines and tourists—and boost the tourism industry. She has a strong record of standing with nurses and hotel and airport workers to fight for good-paying jobs and is committed to fighting against the Republican plans to end Medicare, to restrict a woman’s right to choose and to limit her health care decisions.”
Background:
- California’s 36th Congressional District was left vacant when Congresswoman Jane Harman resigned her seat to become President, CEO, and Director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
- In the past 20 days, the DCCC, OFA and the California Democratic Party filled 1,112 volunteer shifts which made 409,829 live calls in support of Janice Hahn.
