Chairman Israel’s Statement on House Republicans Voting to Block Payroll Tax Cut Extension

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement after House Republicans voted to block a bipartisan payroll tax cut extension compromise that overwhelmingly passed the Senate on Saturday.

“Right now Americans want two things from their Congress: middle class tax relief and compromise. House Republican partisanship failed on both counts. There is a war within the Republican Caucus and sadly, the victims will be the middle class and the price will be $1,000 in higher taxes in January. This is a turning point and we are going to hold Republicans accountable for turning against their districts in order to kowtow to Tea Party extremists.”
