Congressman Aaron Schock Touts Job Training Funding He Voted Against

It wasn’t enough for Congressman Aaron Schock to take credit last year for a $410,000 federal COPS Technology Grant that he voted against on the House floor. Now, according to the State Journal Register, Schock was in Springfield, IL to “tout” a $350,000 grant for a green technologies education program that he voted against.  These hypocritical claims are so outrageous they aren’t just being noticed by local voters anymore.  Yesterday on “Meet The Press,” Schock was called out by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow for doing one thing in Washington, and saying another back home.

“Opposing much needed law enforcement and job training funding is bad enough, but it is simply outrageous for Congressman Schock to try to trick people back home into believing he is responsible for delivering this money when the truth is he voted against these critical investments,” said Gabby Adler, Midwestern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  “Aaron Schock can’t defend this sort of hypocrisy to Illinois voters, any more than he attempted to defend it on national television to Rachel Maddow on NBC’s ‘Meet The Press.’  It is time for Aaron Schock to come clean, and stop taking credit for the job training he is voting against in Washington.”

BACKGROUND

On Meet The Press this Sunday, Rachel Maddow held Congressman Aaron Schock responsible for his hypocritical claims, saying to Schock “You, in your district, I just read that you were at a community college touting a $350,000 green technology education program, talking about how great that was going to be for your district.  You voted against the bill that created that grant. That's happening a lot with Republicans sort of taking credit for things that Democratic bills do and then Republicans simultaneously touting their votes against them and trashing them.” [Huffington Post, 2/14/10]
