Congressman Joe “Liar” Wilson—2:30 p.m. update

I'm Sorry? ... Politico reports that Republican leaders are pushing Congressman Wilson to make a public apology on the House floor, as is custom and appropriate:

"House Republican aides said they had expected Wilson to go on the House floor and make a public apology. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said he was told the final vote of the day in the House Thursday was delayed because Republican leaders were trying to convince Wilson he needed to go beyond his call to Emanuel." [Politico, 09/10/09]

Liar, Liar Pants on Fire ... Non-partisan Politifact.com "Truth-O-Meter" rates Congressman Wilson's statement on immigration "false."  Politifact.com writes, "Obama's said 'the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally,' which Wilson said was a 'lie.' Actually, Obama can make a pretty thorough case that reform doesn't apply to those here illegally. We don't find the public option argument enough to make the case that Obama 'lied.' We rate Wilson's statement False." [Politifact, 09/10/09]

Grassroots speak up ... Since Republican Congressman Joe Wilson's outburst on the House floor his Democratic opponent, former-Marine Rob Miller, has received 11,000 individual grassroots contributions raising more than $400,000.
