Van Hollen Statement on President Bush Commuting Scooter Libby's Prison Sentence

Chairman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement today on news reports that President Bush commuted Dick Cheney’s former Chief of Staff Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s prison sentence:

“A jury found Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby guilty of lying and obstructing the investigation of who leaked the identity of covert CIA operative and a judge sentenced him to prison – but true to form, the Bush Administration won’t be held accountable.

“President Bush’s decision to make sure his and Dick Cheney’s loyal deputy doesn’t pay for his crimes is just the latest example of their belief that the Bush Administration is above the law and not accountable.”
