Chairman Chris Van Hollen Calls on the President and House Republicans to End Games on Childrens Health Care
Chairman Van Hollen released the following statement today on the games Republicans are playing with the State Children's Health Insurance Program bill:
For months President George Bush and House Republicans have played political games with the health care of 10 million American children. Republicans claim they want to negotiate in good faith. Now, we learn that President Bush and congressional Republicans are more worried about protecting the tobacco lobby than providing health insurance to American kids.
"One year ago, the American people demanded a change of direction and the President and congressional Republicans are doing everything in their power to stand in the way of that. Congressional Republicans have a simple choice: end the games and work with Democrats on children's health care or prepare to explain to their constituents why loyalty to President Bush and the tobacco lobby is more important than their kids heath care."
