Chairman Van Hollen’s Statement on Attorney General Gonzales’ Resignation

Chairman Van Hollen released the following statement on resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

"The resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is long overdue. The Bush Administration has made the Justice Department an arm of the White House political operation.

"As the Democratic Congress’ oversight revealed just how extensive the Justice Department’s politicization had become, it was clear that Gonzales had to go. Hopefully, with the departures of Harriet Miers, Karl Rove, and now Alberto Gonzales, the Justice Department can get back to enforcing our laws without regard to partisanship."
