Day 188: House Republicans Latest Bright Idea That Doesn’t Create Jobs

On their 188th day without any legislation to create jobs, today, House Republicans are set to “bow to their tea party base” and vote on a plan to “save the incandescent light bulb.” After focusing on eliminating Styrofoam cups from the House cafeterias and now incandescent light bulbs, what’s next for House Republicans: Defending the 8-track tape?

Where are the jobs?

According to the running clock at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s website, http://www.whenarethejobs.com/, Republicans have done nothing to create jobs for 188 days, 11 hours, and 46 minutes. Today, Republicans are trying to roll back minimum efficiency standards for incandescent light bulbs.

From POLITICO:

“House Republicans will bow to their tea party base on Monday by bringing up legislation to save the incandescent light bulb.

But for those keeping score at home, the proposal that reflects the catcalls of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann is likely to land in the same dustbin now home to many other GOP energy proposals.

Republicans say Senate gridlock is the primary reason none of their big energy ideas has reached President Barack Obama’s desk.

But the symbolic posturing behind much of the GOP agenda has left the majority with few accomplishments beyond bringing Styrofoam cups back to House cafeterias.” [POLITICO, 7/10/11]
