DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on the 48th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on the 48th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act:
“On the 48th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act we remember and celebrate this historic piece of legislation that outlawed discrimination against African Americans in the democratic process, the workplace, the community, and in our schools. The Civil Rights Act was paramount in advancing fairness, equality, and opportunity. It’s with honor and great respect that we acknowledge our colleagues Assistant Leader Jim Clyburn and Congressman John Lewis for their lifetime of work on Civil Rights.
“As we observe this anniversary, Republicans are on a crusade to disenfranchise African Americans and Hispanic voters. We must stop Republicans’ assault on voting rights across the nation, and on today’s anniversary we must remain especially vigilant in defending the voting rights of all Americans.”
