DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s Statement on Barney Frank’s Decision Not to Run for Re-election
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement on Congressman Barney Frank’s (MA-04) announcement that he will not run for re-election in 2012.
“For more than 30 years Congressman Barney Frank has been a champion for Massachusetts families and as America has moved forward it has been Barney Frank leading the way. He’s led our Caucus and our country to a better place, fighting for opportunity, fairness, and equality. He is more than a Congressman who has ably served his constituents in Massachusetts, he is a voice for the voiceless, a leader for our Caucus, and a lion of the House. Congress will not be the same without him.
“An extraordinary leader in the fight to end our financial crisis, Barney Frank authored the most sweeping reforms of Wall Street since the Great Depression, reforms that House Republicans are desperately trying to dismantle. House Democrats are committed to electing people who will protect main street – its small businesses and middle class taxpayers.
“On behalf of the DCCC, I thank Barney Frank for his distinguished service in Congress. This is a strong Democratic district that President Obama won with 61 percent and Senator John Kerry won and we look forward to electing a Democrat next November who will create jobs, protect the middle class and the Medicare guarantee for seniors rather than tax breaks for billionaires.”
